The Wave Star 500 kW test section
18 September 2009 was a great and important day in Wave Star Energy's 6 year old history. The new generation of the Wave Star machine was installed in Hanstholm - and has set a milestone in international wave energy!
The machine, which is 40 meters long, is a test section of an upcoming commercial 500 kW wave energy machine.
The test section is shortened in length compared with the complete machine and only has two arms and floats. Only the length of the test section will be different from the next full machine. For example, the floats have a diameter of 5 meters!
The power per flow is expected to be minimum 25 kW - and up to 50 kW, as a result of optimization of the test section.
The machine is put into operation in the North Sea off Hanstholm. It will be located 300 meters away in the North Sea at 7 meters depth.
The test section will provide the basis for thorough testing and optimization of the future 500 kW machine, which will be 70 meters long and has a total of 20 floats.
